SMS allows sharing text based information from one cell phone to another. It may be via e-mail or chat. A message is being routed to many other devices such as palm tops, Personal Digital Assistance and so on. The message that has been routed from one cell phone then it has been stored at MSC (Mobile Switching Center) crossing through the BS (Base Station). Now here the network starts to find out the location of the destiny cellular phone and then sends signals to the Base Stating of the nearest cell to alert the phone that a message is on the way. Now Base Station sends out alerts over the control channel. The cell phone tunes to the channel where the message will be sent and receives the messages. Thus the cellular phones received messages over the control channel. As alerts reach in phone then phone starts ringing that ensures that message is in inbox. Remember one thing that as the message delivered to cell phone then it is deleted from the MS. Now here the case arises that if the message that has to be delivered to such a cellular phone that is switched off or not on the network then MSC stored that message up to 72 hours. Now this standard has fell down to 48 hours, then the message that is in pending is being deleted from the MSC.

How Does SMS Technology Work
